CSOs Want NASS To Reconvene And Pass INEC Election Budget
Leadership of the National Assembly have been given a five-day ultimatum to reconvene and pass the budget of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the conduct of the 2019 general and presidential elections.
The ultimatum was given yesterday by civil society organisations under the aegis of Movement for Transparent Elections, MTE who threatened to unleash their wrath if the National Assembly do not adhere.
The CSOs threatened that when the five-day ultimatum ends on September 18, and the Senate and House of Representatives does not call back its members from annual recess to consider the budget, a mass protest nationwide would be embarked upon.
Yesterday, the coalition of CSOs, led by Abiodun Ajijola, marched with placards bearing different inscriptions and chanted anti-lawmaker songs from the Unity Fountain, Abuja, to the Police gate at the National Assembly.
The protesters said “We would also let Nigerians know those who are causing these delays,’’ Ajijola said.
According to them, the actions of the legislatures is inimical to stability and progress.
