Ibrahim Khalil, a 19-year-old resident of Kano, was sentenced to death by hanging for killing his 5-year-old nephew, Ahmad Ado, by blowing his nose and mouth.
Khalil, who presided over the case at the Kano State High Court, was sentenced by Judge Usman Naabba to two counts of kidnapping and murder.
While he was sentenced to 14 years in prison and 14 years in prison for aggravated robbery, he was sentenced to death by hanging after a verdict that the prosecutors had established their case beyond doubt.
The verdict came after the lawyer, Mr. Lamido Sorondinki, told the court that the accused committed the crime in 2019 in the Karkasara area of Kano.
Sorondinki said Khalil abducted his nephew, Ado, and used duct tape to cover his nose and nose, before burying him in a shallow grave in Sabuwar Sheka in Kano.
Three witnesses and four witnesses were presented by the prosecutors to the court during the trial.
Although Khalil denied any involvement in the death of his nephew, his lawyer Barr. Aisha Abdulkadir identified him as the only witness and begged for comfort for him.
